Children's and Family Programs for March
This year's readathon put together by the Children's Department at the Bellevue Public Library on March 2 attracted some 188 fans of Dr. Seuss. Sponsors of this event included the following: ACE Rent-to-Own, Apples & More: A Teacher's Store, Baker's Supermarket, No Frills Supermarket, Patricia Catering, Shopko and Village Inn.
(Note: If Bellevue Public Schools close because of inclement weather,
children's programming at the library
will be canceled for the day.)
Baby & Me
Baby & Me Storytimes are held on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. These are designed especially as a one-on-one experience for infants ages birth to 24 months and their parents/caregivers. Each 25-minute session features a simple story, music, rhymes, puppets and other age-appropriate activities.
Bookworm Storytimes
These are held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and repeated at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Bookworm
Storytimes are geared toward
children ages 3 to 5 years old and their parents/caregivers. Early literacy skills will be emphasized through books, songs, nursery rhymes,
and fingerplays. Following each 30-minute program, children will be invited to stay for a simple enrichment activity that will also
highlight early literacy skills through such activities as art, manipulative play, games, puzzles and musical instruments. Siblings
welcome!
Toddler Storytimes
These programs are held on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. and are designed especially for children ages 2 to 3 years old and their parents/caregivers. Stories, songs, puppets and activities are included in each 30-minute session. Older and younger siblings are welcome to come.
PJ Storytime
Join Mrs. B on Tuesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. for some wonderful holiday bedtime stories. Children are invited to wear their pajamas and to bring a blanket, pillow, or stuffed animal. This 30-minute storytime is geared towards preschool and early elementary aged children. It will take place in the children's area.
Pawsitive
Reading
Pawsitive Reading will be offered on Saturday, March 13, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the library. Specially-trained therapy dogs love children to read to them and young readers can practice their reading skills in a non-threatening environment. Registration is required and the 15-minute time slots fill up quickly. Call or visit the library for more information or to reserve a time slot.
Swing into Reading
If your child is between the ages of 2 and 5 years old and not yet in kindergarten, we invite you to participate in this program
co-sponsored by Pizza Hut. After signing up, you will help your child keep track of the number of books he/she reads or has read
to him/her. If you reach your monthly goal, your child will receive a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut on
Galvin Road. This program runs through April.
Special Displays
March is Youth Art Month. Check out some of our arts and crafts books! Our March book displays will also feature St. Patrick's Day and books about spring.
